With PoINT Software & Systems, Avnet offers a comprehensive product meeting all requirements in terms of back-up, data and technology migration and long-term archiving of all data present in a network. The particular strength of this new management solution is in the integrated migration: Existing storage systems are integrated into the innovative PoINT Virtual File System (PoINT VFS), so existing applications can use it without requiring modifications. The users set definable rules as to which data needs to be migrated and whether, and possibly for how long, the storage system to be replaced should still remain in operation. Migrations are run automatically in the background and, in particular, without involving the applications. Another core performance attribute is the broad support for all storage technologies in connection with the innovative file system interface, PoINT VFS. The PoINT Storage Manager virtualizes the various storage devices connected, hence offering a uniform and transparent view for users and applications on existing systems. The proven PoINT Tiered Archive File System (PoINT TAFS) rounds off the solution with a network-wide HSM functionality.
