Avnet FY12 “Kick Off” Tournament
Last Thursday saw Avnet, IBM and Business Partners come together on the football pitch to find out who would be crowned ‘Avnet FY12 Kick Off Champions’. 13 teams battled it out in an exciting five-a-side tournament at the renowned Bisham Abbey football grounds. The day was not only a great, energetic day, but it also served as an excellent opportunity to network and celebrate the start of Avnet’s new financial year.
Despite the initial bad weather reports, the 13 teams - made up of Avnet, IBM and Business Partners employees - kicked off the heats in the sunshine. Once the heats were over, everyone headed back to the Abbey to enjoy a BBQ, where those knocked-out consoled themselves with a well-earned pint and those going into the final stages contemplated the challenge ahead.
In the final games competition was tough, with some games heading to penalty shoot-outs. However, a winner had to be decided. The final match was between team one of Avnet’s teams and Softcat. Softcat played strong right to the end and finished with a spectacular 3 - 0 victory to take the crown (see the winning team photo below). IBM Global Financing (IGF) and Centiq played it out for third place, with IGF managing to pull it out of the bag and secure a 3 - 1 victory.

Following the games, the teams gathered to reflect on the day’s proceedings - and nurse a few injuries and aching limbs. Spirits were high though after such a good day, and the appreciation was shown as the trophies were presented. Afterwards, even though the sun may have set on the pitch, there was still of course, a further battle to be had….The FIFA PS3 challenge.
Avnet would like to thank all who attended. The day was an excellent opportunity to kick off the new financial year with a ‘bang’, and also a great chance to bring members of the IBM channel together with a fun and energetic networking opportunity.
