Events
Informix Proof of Technology SeriesProof of Technology (PoT) are pre-prepared, technical events which run for between one and three days and target technical decision makers and evaluators. Their aims are to give attendees a "deep dive" of the technology through demonstration, presentation and hands on labs. These courses are ideal for individuals who are usually involved in the process of evaluating the product/solution.

On demand
Avnet is pleased to announce that we are able to offer IBM delivered proof of technology sessions on demand at our UK based locations, Bracknell, Haslingden, Birmingham (Hams Hall) and Leeds.
If you are interested in any of the sessions below please register you interest here.
Informix Automatic Storage Provisioning (POT) - To understand what the Informix Automatic Storage Provisioning technology is, how it works, and how a customer can use it to make their database environments even easier to administer.
Informix Discovering and using IDS Replication on Macintosh (POT) - The objective of this session is to explore the replication technology in Informix Dynamic Server 11 and how you can leverage it for competitive advantage, to build a more secure data environment and to create a multi-tiered availability fabric to withstand any type of potential data outage.
Genero PoT - The objective of this session is to introduce Genero and Genero Studio for Informix 4GL developers. Have a look at the Genero Web Client and Web Services, and the Report Writer facilities. Then we will show how to migrate Informix 4GL applications and programs into Genero with Genero Migration.
Hands-On with Informix 11.7 (PoT) Roadshow - The objective of this session is to begin the process of creating an Informix Flexible Grid (Grid) system and replicate data across Informix instances regardless of their O/S platform. Also, gain experience with the Informix Automatic Storage Provisioning feature. You will extend chunks and expand dbspaces, and you will create and use a storagepool and its entries to create new dbspaces or expand existing spaces.
Informix 11.50 Cheetah2 MACH11 Migration Workshop - The objective of this session is to successfully use the MACH-11 functionality including updatable secondaries, the Connection Manager and Failover Arbitrator. This will include the SQL Administration API released originally in Informix 11.10.
Informix on Mac OS X (POT) - The objective of this session is to provide an educational and hands-on experience for those wanting to understand and use two of today’s hottest computing technologies - Informix Dynamic Server (IDS) and the Apple computing platform. They each represent and provide the ultimate in ease-of-use with exceptional power and scalability. With IDS now available on Mac OS X, you can create truly enterprise-class database applications for the platform. Participants will learn about the architecture of the data server and why it is so much faster than other data servers available on the market today. Additional topics will include logical and physical design, business-centered database design, backup and recovery and day-to-day operations.
Informix Warehouse Accelerator (POT) - The objective of this session is to provide hands-on experience in setting up and using the IBM Informix Warehouse Accelerator. Topics covered include installing and configuring the Informix Warehouse Accelerator, installing and configuring the Smart Analytics Optimizer Studio, attaching the Informix Warehouse Accelerator to an Informix database instance and offloading the data marts. It also includes exploring the capabilities of the IBM Informix Warehouse Accelerator and monitoring IBM Informix Warehouse Accelerator.
Informix 11 – Administration & Performance Tuning (POT) - The objective of this session is to explore how IBM can help businesses meet database needs by acquiring and applying IBM Informix Dynamic Server 11 Administration and Performance Tuning.
Informix 11 - Flexible Grid (PoT) - In this Proof of Technology, students will create and use the full spectrum of Informix Flexible Grid technology including Grid, instance, and database operations, the Online Connection Manager and Server Monitor agent, Service Level Agreements, and learn how common SQL data manipulation commands are applied within the Grid.
Informix 11 - Using Advanced Technology (POT) - The objective of this session is to explore the technology in Informix Dynamic Server 11 and how you can leverage it for competitive advantage, to build a more secure data environment and to create a multi-tiered availability fabric to withstand any type of potential data outage.
Informix Enterprise Replication (POT) - This Proof will teach the student about configuring and using Informix Dynamic Server's Enterprise Replication (ER) in various configurations. Replication and other failures will be simulated and recovered from to highlight the resiliency of the technology. Various administration actions will be taken to help the student understand how to maintain the environment.
Informix Full High Availability Clustering (POT) - In this Proof of Technology, you will create and use the full spectrum of Informix Dynamic Server H/A clustering technologies including updatable secondary instances, the Online Connection Manager and Server Monitor agent, Service Level Agreements, delayed application of transactions for protection against SQL errors, and the Failover Arbitrator to create a cluster of instances that can provide virtually uninterrupted data services within a business environment.
Introduction to Informix (PoT) - This Proof will introduce the student to IBM's high-performance OLTP data server - Informix Dynamic Server. Designed for high throughput and large end-user capacity, it is IBM's recommended data server for the most demanding environments. In this class, the student will learn about what makes IDS so fast and easy to manage on a day-to-day basis. The student will also get hands-on experience installing IDS and creating a database environment. Finally they will experience recovering from a major system failure.
Informix Replication Technologies (POT) - The objective of this session is to explore the replication technology in Informix Dynamic Server 11 and how you can leverage it for competitive advantage, to build a more secure data environment and to create a multi-tiered availability fabric to withstand any type of potential data outage.
Informix Storage Optimization (POT) - By the end of the PoT, students should completely understand what the Informix Dynamic Server Storage Optimization feature is and how to use it. They should be able to compress and uncompress data as well as repack and shrink data pages using the graphical as well as command line utilities.
