Creating Future-capable Structures for Continued Growth

Avnet Technology Solutions abandons business unit model across Europe and plans to operate under a uniform market presence in the future

7 August 2007 :

Bracknell, UK, 7 August 2007 – With a new corporate structure, Avnet Technology Solutions is creating better customer orientation while at the same time driving solution sales forward. The company is abandoning its business unit-based business model across Europe and will in the future continue on its growth path under a uniform market presence.

Avnet Technology Solutions has repositioned its product groups on a European level and further extended the sales responsibility in the countries. In the future, the product groups IBM, HP, SUN and Eizo, the pan-European manufacturer lines and the Solutions & Services area will represent the growing sales in complete solutions, and the classic component business will continue to be operated under Computing Components. The new product groups link the company’s well-proven manufacturer orientation with solution sales, which in the future will be more strongly oriented across different manufacturers. The matrix of pan-European product groups with regional revenue accountability is set to replace the present business model of Avnet Technology Solutions, which consists of the business units Avnet Visual + Data Solutions, Avnet Applied Computing Solutions, Avnet Computing Components and Avnet Partner Solutions. “The new organisation structure places our solution-driven approach to the customer at centre stage”, says Dick Borsboom, EMEA President of Avnet Technology Solutions. “In addition, our new acquisitions, Access Distribution and the Enterprise Infrastructure Division of Magirus, are too large and too complex for us to have simply integrated them in our previous business unit, Avnet Partner Solutions.”

With the new structure we can properly position the SUN-focused business of Access Distribution, which was acquired at the beginning of the year, as well as the recently acquired IBM and HP business of Magirus, in the new corporate structure. At the same time, Avnet Technology Solutions is making its country managers significantly more revenue accountable as “Country Sales Managers”. In the UK Matthew Gower will take over responsibility for sales and customers as Country Sales Manager, having previously headed up the Visual + Data Solutions business unit.

The newly formed IBM, HP, SUN and EIZO product groups, Solutions & Services and Computing Components will all be sold and marketed uniformly under the Avnet Technology Solutions brand and will replace the present business unit model by year-end 2007. “With it, we want to make our market presence across Europe simpler and more distinct, and promote the cross-manufacturer solutions business”, emphasises Borsboom. “By doing so, we can better use cross-selling potential and exploit synergies in manufacturer marketing. The key goal of the restructuring is to build a strong Solutions & Services area to drive solution sales together with the central manufacturer lines.”
