Increasing the power on your PoE switch
Modern Power over Ethernet (PoE) devices are requiring more and more power. If you are moving to Video phones, upgrading your wireless to 802.11n or utilising CCTV/Video Surveillance on your site you may find that you need to look at a solution for the power requirement.
The new FastIron CX range of edge switches from Brocade Communications is able to deliver full PoE+ (802.3at) to every port, enabling these new power demanding technologies, whilst still providing industry-leading performance.
Despite this increase in power requirement, the Brocade FastIron CX can still help you save money through intelligent power negotiation. The CX range will automatically negotiate the power requirements of connected devices and provide exactly what is needed. If PoE+ devices support it, they are able to notify the switch that they are entering a power saving state and request less power from the network – enabling lower power usage across your site.
With the increase in power of these PoE-based devices typically comes a significant increase in bandwidth requirements. The FastIron CX range comes complete with two 16Gbps stacking ports and the ability to provide multiple 10Gbps uplinks to get this data back from the edge and into your core network.
