Mobile and fixed telecommunication technology was developed to deliver the same (voice) service, but in different ways. Fixed Mobile Convergence, or FMC as it is commonly known, can change this and vastly reduce corporate mobile phone bills.

In a typical office staff receive and make phone calls on their mobiles, paying mobile rates, whilst stood within a few feet of a desk phone attached to the corporate PBX (phone system). This costs money and wastes time, and often results in messages being left or calls being made to multiple devices to track someone down.

By utilising WiFi enabled mobile phones via trusted WiFi networks a mobile phone becomes an extension of the corporate PBX (phone system). This makes all the features of a landline, like call transfer, hunt groups, call hold etc, available on the mobile phone. The big attraction here is that all phone calls made within WiFi range are now channelled via the PBX, so inter-company calls are now made over IP and therefore incur no charge. This includes home workers, other office locations, onsite contract workers, or anywhere else a user encounters a trusted WIFI network. It also means that external calls, including premium, 0800, international calls are made via the PBX and therefore at less expensive landline costs.
