- Lower TCO on datacentre networking
66% lower TCO on datacentre networking. Tempted?
Gartner’s 2010 paper “Debunking the Myth of the Single-Vendor Network” has proved a game-changer for networking strategy. For Systems Integrators and Managed Service Providers it shows how networking choices can: drive large reductions in TCO, increase efficiencies, improve service delivery and leverage networking in larger initiatives such as virtualisation, convergence and cloud.
Gartner’s own research suggests savings of between 15-25% when introducing a second vendor to the network. Even more encouragingly IDC identifies savings of to an astonishing 66% on networking TCO when datacentre decision-makers integrate HP Networking with HP servers, storage and software.
Read the full Gartner report, key highlights include how:
- Introducing a second vendor into the network infrastructure has no long-term impact on operational costs for organisations following best practices, whilst reducing total cost of ownership (TCO) for most organisations by at least 15% to 25% over a five-year time frame
- Gartner did not encounter one example where operational cost savings would offset the equipment cost premium that Cisco generally charges
- Most organisations that introduced a second vendor report a lasting decrease in network complexity, compared with an all-Cisco network
- Network operations teams that are already using some form of multivendor management tools for fault alerting, configuration management or performance management are well-positioned to take advantage of the second-vendor opportunity
- Network architects and CIOs must consider alternative network vendors to ensure that they deliver a functional network solution at an appropriate cost point
- Network operations teams should invest in multivendor-capable tools, enabling the organisation to deal with a second vendor in their infrastructure and improve the operational capabilities with their incumbent solution.”
For Systems Integrators and Managed Service Providers the benefits of HP Networking are clear:
- Open Standards in networking reduces energy consumption by up to 35% and increases performance by up to 62% - offering scalable, cost effective deployments without vendor lock-in
- Full lifetime warranty on enterprise class switches and chassis translates into reduced support costs, and using IMC to easily manage multi-vendor networks through a single pane of glass means big reductions in management costs
- HP’s switches, routers and extended networking solutions, in combination with 10Gb Ethernet on the network edge, offer game changing performance and functionality for enterprise and mid-range IT environments
- HP is committed to future development of the HP Networking portfolio, providing frequent upgrades, new technologies and published product roadmaps to provide confidence in network investments.
Gartner also places HP Networking as a ‘leader’ in its Global Enterprise LAN Magic Quadrant, establishing HP as the genuine alternative to Cisco when it comes to networking in enterprise environments. Only by working with a Tier 1, whole of infrastructure Supplier and distribution partnership, like HP and Avnet, can you leverage the network within a fully optimised IT infrastructure for virtualisation, convergence and cloud.
