POWER7 Seminar - What does it all mean?

By now, you will have undoubtedly seen or heard about IBM’s new POWER7 solutions. There have been a number of launch activities over the past month or so which we hope have been useful to you in understanding the importance of these releases.
To try and bring a little clarity to the raft of information now out there, Avnet will be hosting an education event on Wednesday 26th May 2010 around the new IBM POWER7 solutions.
IDC to present on the Unix Server Landscape
Nathaniel Martinez, a program director in IDC's European System Infrastructure Solutions Group, will be delivering a presentation on the Unix Server Landscape as it stands today. Nathaniel researches and reports on the volume, midrange and high-end segments of the European server market, including, blade servers, Unix systems trends, Linux adoption, virtualisation and system management technology, and commercial adoption of grid computing.
At this event, Nathaniel will be providing his findings and analysis on:
- The role of IT in economic recover
- The CIO balancing act - Optimisation, business alignment and risk management
- UK and WW Unix Server market trends
- The impact of multi-core technology
- Virtualisation benefits and challenges
- Workload / application modernisation
- RAS features are key for business resiliency
- Consideration for mission critical infrastructure
With this, POWER7’s place in the UK Server landscape will be clearly exposed and allow you to see where the opportunities will lie, allowing you to begin drawing up your sales and marketing strategy for the coming twelve months and beyond.
Breakdown of the event
The morning session will provide an overview POWER7, how the current server landscape will accommodate these new systems and how to make the most of the opportunities that these new servers will generate. The afternoon session will be broken down into three tracks: one focusing on the sales and marketing opportunities for POWER7; and the other two looking at the technical aspect, including roadmaps for system p and system i Business Partners, how POWER7 fares in comparison to the competition and what resource is available to you, both from Avnet and IBM.
