NEW - Backup Exec 2010 R3 – Release Update

Symantec is announcing Symantec Backup Exec™ 2010 R3. This new version will replace Symantec Backup Exec™ 2010 R2 for Windows® Servers. Symantec Backup Exec™ 2010 R3 provides new technologies that offer multiple opportunities to expand every sale. Backup Exec 2010 seamlessly complements Symantec’s market-leading security, archiving, and disaster recovery products, making it easy for you to deliver complete solutions that will set you apart from the competition. With our integrated deduplication and archiving, plus first-to-market granular application recovery for the latest Microsoft® applications and VMware® and Microsoft Hyper-V™ virtual environments, the new Backup Exec will help your customers improve backup performance, reduce storage and administration costs, and minimise business downtime—all while presenting profitable add-on sales and consulting opportunities with every server, storage, and application deployment.

Backup Exec™ 2010 Exchange Mailbox Archiving Option
Backup Exec™ 2010 File Server Archiving Option
Backup Exec NEW Archive Options provide unified backup and archiving for File Server and Exchange Mailboxes environments by uniquely archiving data from the backup copy rather than separately pulling data from the source. These Archive Options will provide administrators with the ability reduce redundant data from the Exchange or Files server source to free up storage space. Overall it will provide efficient data indexing and allow administrators to set retention periods to efficiently manage data lifecycles. Exec’s Agent for Enterprise Vault now supports Backup, Recovery, and Migration for EV 10 installations. This is included at no charge for existing customers of the EV Agent.
NEW - Backup Exec Archive Option for Exchange now includes Virtual Vault, an Outlook Add-In that allows end-users to access Archived emails directly from within their Outlook application. This is included at no charge for existing customers of the Backup Exec Archive Option for Exchange.

Enhanced VMware® vSphere 4.0 support and new virtual server application support
Backup Exec™ 2010 Agent for VMware® Virtual Infrastructure
Integrated backup and deduplication support for both online and offline VMware ESX 3.5 Update 2 and vSphere 4.0 - plus new first-to-market virtual application protection for Microsoft Exchange, SQL, and Active Directory. Now from a single-pass backup, administrators will also experience automated Log Truncation of applications running in virtual guest machines. From that single backup, administrators can then easily recover either the virtual machine or granular application data such as Exchange mailboxes, messages, calendar items or individual Active Directory user accounts or objects

NEW - Backup Exec 2010 R3 Cloud Storage for Nirvanix
Backup Exec’s Cloud Storage for Nirvanix plug-in can now be used with any Backup Exec installation to provide cloud-based backup to our storage partner Nirvanix. Previously, customers wishing to use this functionality were required to purchase the Deduplication Option. This is available to all customers of Backup Exec at no charge.
*Note: Customers must have a storage contract purchased from Nirvanix in order to backup to and recover data from the Nirvanix cloud.
