Symantec is announcing Symantec Brightmail™ Traffic Shaper 6.0. The Symantec Brightmail™ Traffic Shaper (formerly Mail Security 8100 Series) stops spam before it enters the network—reducing total email volume by up to 70 percent and spam volume up to 80 percent while ensuring the continuous flow of legitimate email. By shaping email traffic at the TCP protocol level, this unique security appliance prohibits spammers from forcing unwanted email into your network. It increases the cost to spammer while helping you increase your bandwidth availability and reduce infrastructure cost.

- Reduces up to 70% overall email volume and up to 80% spam volume.
- A single appliance handles up to 750,000 user accounts and processes thousands of messages a second, depending on message size.
- Unique patented technology that shapes traffic at the TCP/IP level to decrease QOS to spammers.
- Combines with any antispam gateway solution to provide a comprehensive and multi-layered approach to combat spam.
- Symantec Brightmail™ Traffic shaper adds additional capacity related features and can handle 3 times the number of concurrent shaped connections, track 5 times the number of IP addresses and sample messages at up to 8 times the rate it used to.
- There are additional features added to improve diagnostics and reporting such as logging connection information to syslog, setting customisable SMTP error messages, and searching improvements that allows administrators to more quickly locate the information they are after.
Symantec Brightmail™ Gateway 9.0 & Symantec Content Encryption Add-On
Symantec Brightmail™ Gateway delivers inbound and outbound messaging security, with effective and accurate real-time antispam and antivirus protection, advanced content filtering, data loss prevention, and email encryption. Brightmail Gateway is simple to administer and catches more than 99% of spam with less than one in a million false positives. With Brightmail Gateway, organisations can effectively respond to new messaging threats, minimising network downtime, preserving employee productivity, and protecting company reputation. The product leverages real-time automatic antispam and antivirus updates from the Symantec Global Intelligence Network, on-box connection throttling using both global and self-learning local IP reputation, and comprehensive reporting.

- Symantec Content Encryption – A new premium add-on service to Symantec Brightmail Gateway, Symantec Content Encryption integrates Brightmail Gateway’s powerful advanced content filtering and data loss prevention policies with a hosted encryption service to allow customers to encrypt sensitive outbound email without managing any additional infrastructure.
- Improved Incident Management – Configurable incident folder management reduces the effort spent managing quarantined compliance and data loss prevention incidents, including the ability to automate remediation options.
Increased Scalability:
- High-Performance LDAP Integration – New LDAP integration architecture scales support for recipient validation, authentication, address resolution, and email routing based on a company’s LDAP infrastructure to very large enterprise deployments.
- Robust Spam Quarantine Architecture – New Spam Quarantine architecture leverages high-speed disk access to improve performance and increase scalability by up to two orders of magnitude.
Improved Manageability:
- Support for SMTP Authentication – SMTP Authentication allows mail clients to authenticate and connect directly to Symantec Brightmail Gateway without connecting to a groupware server.
- Expanded VMware Support – Symantec Brightmail Gateway Virtual Edition supports deployment on VMware vSphere 4.0, VMware’s latest generation platform for optimising IT service delivery, high availability, and responsiveness.
