Symantec Brightmail™ Message Filter 6.2
Symantec is announcing an extended Support Life for Symantec Brightmail™ Message Filter 6.x, formerly Symantec Brightmail™ AntiSpam.
Symantec is investing in three alternative email security product offerings for SMB and Enterprise customers:
- Symantec™ Messaging Gateway
- Symantec™ Mail Security for Microsoft® Exchange
- Symantec.Cloud.Enterprise
SMB customers of Symantec Brightmail Message Filter (formerly Symantec Brightmail AntiSpam) should plan to migrate to one of these alternatives.
Symantec Brightmail Message Filter is sold as a subscription product. There is an updated release, Symantec Message Filter 6.3, which will be released later in 2011 which will replace current SKUs for Symantec Brightmail Message Filter 6.2.
Transition Information:
Customers should migrate to an alternative product no later than the time of their next renewal. Depending on the customer’s environment and priorities, Symantec offers three alternatives:
- For customers interested in a secure email gateway at the perimeter of their network, Symantec Messaging Gateway offers a superior set of protection technologies, integrated DLP capabilities, and rich reporting that go well beyond the limited capabilities of Symantec Brightmail Message Filter.
- For smaller customers who are deploying Microsoft Exchange as their only email infrastructure, Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange provides tightly integrated antivirus and antispam filtering leveraging the same technologies as Symantec Brightmail Message Filter.
- For customers who are interested in deploying a hosted email security service, Symantec.cloud offers hosted email security.

Symantec Brightmail Message Filter will remain available for purchase during the Sunset period. Symantec will announce an end of availability date for product SKUs at a later date. During this time, customers are encouraged to prepare for a product migration to one of three products: Symantec Messaging Gateway, Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange, or Symantec.cloud Email Security. This migration should occur at the customer’s next renewal date.
End-of-Support: If customers choose not to migrate their Symantec Brightmail Message Filter licenses to one of the above alternatives, please be aware that all support and maintenance (including content updates) will cease being available for all current or previous versions of Symantec Brightmail Message Filter after July 31, 2013.
Please note that Symantec plans to release one more version of Symantec Brightmail Message Filter, 6.3, later this year, and we will announce End of Support details for that product version as part of the release of that product version. Until the End of Support date, Symantec will continue to provide support services to customers for the balance of their Symantec support subscriptions, in accordance with Symantec support policies and end of life policies and processes.
