Features and Benefits

Features Benefits
Data Mobility Tiered Storage in a Single Box means non disruptive data migration across the entire virtualised environment. Effortlessly moves data to less expensive drive types and lowers TCO. AMS enables mixing and matching of drives to best meet business needs. While most vendors with SAS storage scale to a maximum of 100 hard drives, AMS scales to 480.
Virtualised capacity via dynamic provisioning
Storage can be allocated to an application without actually being physically mapped until it is used. This ‘just-in-time’ provisioning de-couples the provisioning of storage to an application from the physical addition of storage capacity to the storage system to achieve overall higher rates of storage utilisation.
Tremendous scalability & flexibility Scale capacity to more than 470TB, connectivity to up to 2048 virtual server ports and performance to more than 900K IOPs. Expand as business grows, with ‘data-in-place’ upgrades to larger models in the Adaptable Modular Storage 2000 family. Both SAS and SATA drives can be mixed in the same trays to enable best tiering of data on appropriate media.
Unsurpassed reliability & data availability 99.999% data availability and no single point of failure. All models support host path failover, fully redundant, hot swappable components, online microcode updates and mirrored cache with battery backup; and they include symmetrical active-active controllers with automatic failover.
Dynamic Provisioning Improved utilisation rates, simplified storage management, reduced facilities and energy costs.
 The competitive advantag

HDS AMS offers a true technical competitive edge via:

  • High reliability with 99.999% data availability and no single point of failure
  • Greater throughput and concurrent I/O capacity due to the latest, most advanced point-to-point SAS-based architecture
  • Integrated symmetric active/active controllers with automated front-to-back I/O load balancing
  • Ease of configuration with the removal of manual controller-to-LUN mapping requirements of other modular systems
  • Up to 9600MB/sec of total back-end system bandwidth
  • Full integration and support of native operating system–based multipathing software
  • Superior data recovery capabilities from logical data corruptions with support of up to 32 snapshots (via Hitachi Copy-on-Write Snapshot software) per source volume

What's in it for you?

  • A storage offer that stands out from the crowd - bring the high-end HDS pedigree to your mid-market and enterprise customers, benefitting from outstanding promotional deals and bundles as HDS builds market share in this sector.
  • A return to profitable storage business - via a combination of compelling channel deals and simpler scoping and delivery with hands-on help from Avnet.
  • A vendor relationship where you are highly valued - be a more significant player with a vendor that’s very focused on extending its UK channel presence and operate in a smaller partner channel with less competition in each deal.
  • Cement your customer relationships - with technology offering the highest levels of scalability addressing a key point of pain for your customers, deliver the No. 1 performing disk array in TCP benchmark testing.
  • Extend the deal with cross-selling opportunities - let customers get more from their AMS investment with complementary technology including Hitachi Dynamic Provisioning software for virtualised storage capacity. Talk to your Avnet Account Manager about further clothing and attach opportunities.

What's in it for your customer?

  • Greater control over storage CapEx and improved ROI on existing storage assets - deliver true Services Oriented Storage with cost-effective, flexible AMS solutions that scale dynamically to match business demand. Use AMS to provide a stable platform to manage future data growth.
  • More cost effective performance - enable customers to maintain SLAs on budget, affordably match storage to application needs and improve IT service delivery.
  • Easier administration - centralised management for storage administrators means greater efficiencies elsewhere and more time for IT innovation.
  • Enhanced system and data security - a unified AMS solution makes it simpler to implement an effective security strategy and meet regulatory requirements for data protection and retention.

Opportunity spotting

Look out for and develop engagement around:

  • Customers looking for greater scalability - The flexibility of AMS allows customers to grow storage capability as it’s needed. Selected models allow cost-effective scaling of capacity to over 470TB, connectivity to over 2048 server ports and performance to more than 900K IOPS.
  • Customers looking for more effective data protection and retention - AMS offers in-built advanced security capabilities, giving reassurance that data is in the safest possible hands. Hitachi’s Data Retention Utility software features a ‘write once, read many’ (WORM) feature that protects data from overwrites or erasures over long periods of time. System management access sets and limits authorisation of those allowed to make system changes and audit logging records all system changes. All communications between management software and storage are encrypted.
  • Customers looking to reduce storage TCO - AMS’s intuitive management software allows customers to spend less time on configuration tasks and enables them to consolidate and centrally manage systems. Hitachi Dynamic Load Balancing Controller removes the need for system administrators to set controller ownership for each LUN or having to manage LUN assignments manually.
  • Customers looking to increase storage system reliability - with AMS customers get 99.999% data availability and no single point of failure. This allows them to meet high availability demands for disaster recovery, by running applications continuously - practically eliminating unplanned system downtime or data loss.
  • Customers looking for a more cost-effective storage solution - AMS delivers benefits here via a large cache and faster processing. Cache partitioning matches application workloads, providing a higher level of storage performance without the need to buy unnecessary storage space and enhancing ROI.
