Key Benefits
- Increase storage utilisation across heterogeneous operating systems and storage arrays.
- Increase operational efficiency with comprehensive visibility and centralised management of applications, servers and storage across multiple hosts.
- Enhance storage I/O path availability and performance and efficiently spread I/O across multiple paths.
- Free data from technology changes - dynamically migrate data to different tiers of storage and perform seamless data migrations across different server architectures.
Veritas Storage Foundation™ Scalable File Server
This new version will replace Veritas Storage Foundation™ Scalable File Server 5.0. Veritas Storage Foundation™ Scalable File Server (SFS) is a clustered NAS soft appliance that provides NFS/CIFS/FTP file services in a highly available and scalable environment. The soft appliance can be installed on industry standard hardware to give IT organisations flexibility in choice of hardware vendors.
What's New:
Scalable File Server 5.5 delivers several new features including:
- Asynchronous / Episodic Replication
- CIFS/NFS same sharing
- 16 node cluster support
- Automated snapshot scheduling
- Scalable FTP protocol support
- VLAN support
Marketing Descriptions:
Veritas Storage Foundation™ Scalable File Server (SFS) is a clustered NAS gateway appliance that provides enterprise-wide scale-out NFS/CIFS and FTP based file services in a highly available and scalable environment. The server software is installed on industry standard commodity x86-based hardware to give IT organisations flexibility in choice of hardware vendors. Additional SFS servers can be added to the cluster without disruption and the file system can be grown dynamically without affecting file services. SFS combines the stability of a well-proven product with enterprise-class scalability, low cost of deployment, and a simplified administration model.
Veritas Storage Foundation™ High Availability Solutions for Unix & Linux
Veritas Storage Foundation™ and High Availability Solutions for Unix and Linux
Storage Foundation and High Availability (SFHA) Solutions 5.1 for Unix and Linux combines the industry-leading Veritas Volume Manager, Veritas File System and multi-platform Veritas Cluster Server providing complete, heterogeneous availability and storage management. Unlike point solutions SFHA delivers a single, standard set of integrated tools to centrally manage explosive data growth, maximize storage hardware investments, provide data protection and adapt to changing business requirements. Advanced features such as centralised storage management, thin provisioning optimization. Online configuration, administration, storage tiering, multi-pathing, data migration and local and remote replication, enable organisations to reduce operational costs and capital expenditures across the data centre.
What’s new:
- IPv6 Support
- Simplify install & upgrade
- Reduce package count & simplify dependencies
- SKU reductions
- Keyless licensing
- Thin Provisioning Optimisation
- Solid State Disk Integration
Key Features:
- Online storage management with heterogeneous operating system (Solaris, Linux, HP-UX and AIX) support and broad set of qualified storage devices and arrays.
- Storage Foundation Manager allows centralised management of diverse applications, servers and storage.
- Dynamic multi-pathing enables I/O to be efficiently spread across multiple paths for path failure protection and fast failover.
- Dynamic storage tiering enables data to be dynamically moved to different storage tiers to rapidly respond to changing business needs.
- Thin provisioning enables storage capacity to be over allocated to applications and physical capacity to be consumed only as applications actually write data.
- Automates failover of applications within a data center or to remote data centers.
- Allows administrators to monitor, manage, and report on multiple Veritas clusters on different platforms from a single web-based console.
- Supports Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, Linux, Windows and VMware operating system platforms with out-of-the-box solutions for most database, application, and storage vendors.

CPU Meter SKUs and Price Changes
Veritas Storage Foundation™ & High Availability Solutions for Windows - Effective from 6th July
Symantec is announcing the availability of new CPU meter SKUs and price changes for Veritas Storage Foundation™ & High Availability Solutions 5.1 for Windows, this includes the following product options:
- Veritas Storage Foundation 5.1 for Windows
- Veritas Storage Foundation Enterprise 5.1 for Windows
- Veritas Storage Foundation HA 5.1 for Windows
- Veritas Storage Foundation Enterprise HA 5.1 for Windows
- Veritas Storage Foundation HA/DR 5.1 for Windows
- Veritas Storage Foundation Enterprise HA/DR 5.1 for Windows
- Veritas Cluster Server 5.1 for Windows (Note: Replaces Veritas Cluster Server for NetApp)
- Veritas Cluster Server 5.1 for Windows HA/DR
Options:
- DMP 5.1 Option for Windows
- FlashSnap 5.1 Option for Windows
- Microsoft Clustering 5.1 Option for Windows
- Veritas Volume Replicator 5.1 Option for Windows
All of above products have existing SKUs with a per server meter based upon the Windows OS Edition (Web/Standard, Enterprise, Datacenter).
For each product listed above, new SKUs have been added based upon CPU tier. There are 3 CPU tiers for each product as show below:
- CPU Tier 1: Up to 4 CPU cores
- CPU Tier 2: Up to 8 CPU cores
- CPU Tier 3: Unlimited CPU cores
The new CPU meter SKUs are being introduced for the following reasons:
- The per CPU meter is more accommodating, realistic and advantageous in purchasing product in virtualised environments where purchase and licensing per the edition of the OS (only what exists today) that each virtual machine is running becomes too complex, and often can be cost adverse.
- Per CPU provides price advantages in environments running Windows Data Center Edition, which is the largest growing Windows OS Edition in virtualised environments.
- Per CPU on the Windows platform provides further meter parity with the same products on the Unix and Linux platforms. This allows purchases to be standardised on the same meter in a cross platform environment, which becomes especially important in virtualised environments where virtual machines on a single virtual platform will often be a mix of Windows, Linux and Unix.
The price changes to the existing SKUs have been implemented for the following reasons:
- The price changes to the existing SKUs are based upon detailed market analysis, trends and competition.
- The new price points reflect current value in relation and comparison to market analysis and conditions, which helps to ensure the attractiveness of Symantec products in the market place.
